Paper Theatre
FREE Children’s Workshops and Exhibition
Curated by Overlay Press
1 August – 12 September 2026
Slugtown is pleased to announce Paper Theatre, a series of free children’s workshops and exhibition all about print, paper and bookbinding. Paper Theatre is curated by Overlay Press, a print studio and publisher based in Newcastle upon Tyne.
From swirling marbled inks to giant hanging sculptures, the programme spans everything print and paper can be; with quiet, careful activities sitting alongside big and bold collaborative builds. There’s a workshop for the meticulous and the messy alike, and everything in between. You can learn the art of bookbinding, create your own marbled endpapers, or screen print directly on to the gallery walls – amongst many more things.
Alongside the free bookable kids workshops there will be drop-in sessions, film screenings and adult workshops hosted by Overlay Press throughout the course of the project
Over the course of summer, the gallery will become a functioning workshop space and an evolving exhibition with the artworks made during each session going on display, gradually transforming the space into a vibrant celebration of all things print.
