SlugClub Exhibition
15 – 17 January 2026
An exhibition of works made by SlugClub participants in recent workshop sessions. Featuring works made in response to tasks designed by Harry Grundy, Helmut Smits, Cecilia Sargent and Lucas D’Praser Corp, Mac Collins and MikeSian.
Harry Grundy asked participants to carve stars into potatoes, to make their own constellations. Some of the potatoes used have been kept, and now form the mural on the back wall, depicting the constellation of The Great Bear.
MikeSian helped design the SlugClub ClubHouse – where the outside of the clubhouse and the interior where furnished and decorated by SlugClub.
Cecilia Sargent and Lucas D’Praser Corp designed a workshop asking participants to manifest greatness and re-imagine an awards ceremony trophy for a fantastical award they had won.
Mac Collins prepared a simple DIY chair design out of balsa wood, which could then be painted, decorated and remodelled into future design classics.
Helmut Smits asked people to create chaos from order, using simple sticker sheets. Each taking one sheet, they were asked to take off all the stickers from one side, and use them on the reverse in order to make a new work of art.
SlugClub is a free monthly art club for children in and around Shieldfield. We produce monthly riso-printed activity zines with fun and surreal tasks, and a larger centrefold activity created by professional artists. The club is designed to build confidence, and to encourage fun, playful engagement with contemporary art and making!
Every few months, work made in the zines and workshops will be brought together in exhibitions at the gallery showcasing the work made in SlugClub sessions.
We host regular workshops with the Shieldfield Youth Programme (an initiative organised by Dwellbeing Shieldfield and The NewBridge Project), and after school clubs with Hotspur Primary School and Christ Church C of E Primary School.
